Women’s Swimming in Sixth After Day Two of AMCC Championships

ERIE, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's swimming wound up in sixth place by the end of the second day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships, hosted by Penn State Behrend at the Junker Center, on Thursday.

In first place by the conclusion of Thursday's action was host school Penn State Behrend, which totaled 208 points. Cabrini College was just shy of Behrend's point total, accumulating 206 points through the first two days of competition to rank second. Alfred State College was third with 191 points, Franciscan University placed fourth with 76 points, Pitt-Bradford was in fifth place with 71 points, and Penn State Altoona held sixth place with a two-day total of 59 points.

After the preliminaries on Thursday morning set the stage for the finals in the evening, the Lady Lions started the finals session by placing fourth out of six squads in the 'A' final of the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. In that swim, the team of Danielle Bye (Hockessin, DE/Cab Calloway School of the Arts), Alexis Franks (Pleasant Gap, PA/Bellefonte), Emily Beam (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone), and Emily Booz (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) combined for a time of 1:52.75.

In the next event, the 500 Yard Freestyle, Penn State Altoona's Hannah Kimmick (Youngwood, PA/Hempfield) competed in the 'B' cut final. Kimmick placed fifth in the 'B' final and 11th place overall in the swim, posting a time of 6:07.56.

Bye had a record-breaking performance in the next women's swim, the 200 Yard I.M. In the 'A' final of that event, Bye finished as the AMCC runner-up, coming in second place with a time of 2:18.92. That time set a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming record in the 200 Yard I.M., surpassing the previous record which was held by her current teammate, Booz.

Beam also participated in the 200 Yard I.M., competing in the 'B' final and finishing in 2:45.36 to place fifth in the 'B' and 11th overall.

The AMCC Championships continue tomorrow, Friday, February 16, for day three of the four-day event. Preliminaries open Friday's action at 10:00 a.m., followed by the finals for the day at 6:00 p.m.
