Women’s Swimming Ascends Standings During Friday’s AMCC Championships

ERIE, Pa. -- During the third day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center on Friday, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team moved up into fourth place in the standings.

The Lady Lions began the day in sixth place with 59 points through the first two days of competition, but the team used a strong showing in Friday evening's finals session to rise into fourth place with a three-day total of 130 points.

Cabrini College held first place by the end of the day with a total of 382 points, and Penn State Behrend was close behind with 378 points for second place. Alfred State College was third with 333 points, Franciscan University was fifth with 110 points, and Pitt-Bradford was sixth with 106 points.

The Lady Lions recorded two AMCC runner-up finishes in 'A' final swims, one of which set a new team record.

In the 'A' final of the 100 Yard Butterfly, Danielle Bye (Hockessin, DE/Cab Calloway School of the Arts) earned a second place finish with a time of 1:00.69. That time set a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming record in the 100 Yard Butterfly, marking Bye's second record-breaking swim in as many days.

Meanwhile, Emily Booz (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) grabbed a second place finish in the 'A' final of the 100 Yard Backstroke, clocking in at 1:03.38 to join Bye as a conference runner-up.

Penn State Altoona started Friday evening's finals in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, where the squad of Booz, Elizabeth Anderson (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land), Bye, and Hannah Kimmick (Youngwood, PA/Hempfield) placed fourth in the 'A' final with a combined time of 2:04.19.

Emily Beam (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) joined Bye in the 100 Yard Butterfly, competing in the 'B' final. Beam won the 'B' group and placed seventh overall with a time of 1:11.09.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle 'A' cut final, Booz picked up a fifth place finish with a time of 2:06.89. In the 'B' final of the 200 Yard Freestyle, Kimmick finished in 2:20.60 to place fifth in the 'B' group and 11th overall.

Anderson competed in the 'B' cut of the 100 Yard Breaststroke finals, recording a time of 1:21.80 to place fourth in the 'B' group and 10th overall in the event.

Courtney Frye (Roaring Spring, PA/Central) competed in the 'B' cut of the 100 Yard Backstroke, clocking in at 1:19.89 to place sixth in the 'B' group and 12th overall.

The fourth and final day of the AMCC Championships is tomorrow, Saturday, February 17. Preliminaries start the day at 10:00 a.m., and the last finals session of the championships begins at 6:00 p.m. Included in tomorrow's events will be the 200 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Breaststroke, and 200 Yard Butterfly.
