Lady Lions Hold Fourth After Day Three of AMCC Championships

ERIE, Pa. – After the third day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center Pool, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team remained in fourth place out of six teams.

Through three full days of swimming, the Lady Lions had 122 points. Penn State Behrend continued to lead all teams, growing their point total to 465. Alfred State College was in second place with 413, and Franciscan University was third with 233. Pitt-Bradford held fifth place with 17 points, and SUNY Delhi was sixth with nine points.

Penn State Altoona started Thursday's finals session with a fourth place finish in the 'A' final of the 200 Yard Medley Relay, as Danielle Bye (Hockessin, DE/Cab Calloway School of the Arts), Hannah Kimmick (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield), Emily Beam (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone), and Kaitlin Heil (Pittsburgh, PA/CAPA) came together to post a time of 2:06.30.

The highlight of the night came in the 'A' final for the 100 Yard Butterfly, where Bye took first place. She finished with a time of 59.52, edging the second-place finisher by 0.40 seconds to win the event and claim the AMCC individual title in it. Bye also broke her own school record in the 100 Yard Butterfly, as her time of 59.52 tonight eclipsed her previous school record of 1:00.69, which was set during last year's AMCC Championships on February 16, 2018.

In the 'B' final of the 100 Yard Butterfly, Beam placed second and eighth overall out of 12 total swimmers by finishing in 1:08.51. Heil took fifth in the 'B' cut and 11th overall, clocking in at 1:17.45.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Kimmick won the 'B' cut final and placed seventh overall out of 12 total swimmers by finishing in 2:11.12.

Now, the Lady Lions will proceed into the fourth and final day of the AMCC Championships tomorrow, Saturday, February 16. The day will begin at 10:00 a.m. with preliminaries in the 200 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Breaststroke, 200 Yard Butterfly, and 1,650 Freestyle. The last finals session of the championships will start at 6:00 p.m., featuring the 1,650 Freestyle, 200 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Breaststroke, 200 Yard Butterfly, and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The AMCC individual awards session will follow.
