Lady Lions Swimming Defeats Franciscan 74-61

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team recorded its second dual meet win of the season on Saturday afternoon, when the Lady Lions toppled Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Franciscan University 74-61 at the Big Red Natatorium at Steubenville High School.

The Lady Lions recorded six first place finishes in total, winning six out of the eight total events during Saturday's meet.

Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) led the way for Penn State Altoona with three first place finishes, while Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) picked up two first places. Gillian Lowe (York, PA/Dallastown) posted one first place.

After Franciscan won the first event of the meet, Penn State Altoona prevailed in the next swim, when Heisey won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 27.91.

Dangelo followed with back-to-back first place finishes. In the 200 Yard IM, she won with a time of 2:16.60. In the next event, the 100 Yard Butterfly, Dangelo took first when she clocked in at 1:02.01.

Heisey won the next event to notch her second win of the day, as she took first place in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:00.98.

Lowe came next, winning the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:12.73.

Dangelo earned her team-high third win of the day in the next swim, the 500 Yard Freestyle. She finished with a time of 5:31.41, placing atop the standings to help seal a victory for her team on the day.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's swimming will venture into non-conference play, as the Lady Lions will take on Juniata College and Division II opponent California University of Pennsylvania on Friday, November 8. That tri-meet, which will be hosted at Juniata, is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
