Dangelo Sets Two Records for Lady Lions at Oberlin Invitational

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team participated in its first events of this weekend's Oberlin College Invitational on Saturday, jumping into action during day two of the three-day meet at the Carr Pool.

The Lady Lions totaled 59 points on Saturday and held 13th place out of the 13-team field of women's teams. Allegheny College was in first place with 967 points, Ashland University was second with 755.5 points, and Malone University held third place with 595.5 points.

Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) had a banner day for the women's swimming team. Based on the results from the morning's preliminaries, the freshman qualified for the 'A' final in two different swims. In the evening's finals session, Dangelo won one event and placed third in the other, setting a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming record in each one, while also setting a new Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference record along the way.

Dangelo took first place in the 200 Yard Butterfly 'A' final, finishing in 2.12.32 to secure 32 points for the Lady Lions. Her time set a new Penn State Altoona women's record in that swim, breaking the previous record time of 2:20.25, which was set by former swimmer Kim Love.

Additionally, Dangelo's time in the 200 Yard Butterfly surpassed the AMCC women's swimming conference-wide record time of 2:35.07, set this past November 1 by Penn State Behrend's Marcella Puglia.

In the 'A' final for the 200 Yard IM, Dangelo placed third with a time of 2:12.32 to net 27 points for Penn State Altoona. Dangelo's time broke her own record of 2:13.89, which she set this past October 26 in a meet against Pitt-Bradford and SUNY Delhi.
