Women’s Swimming Earns 76-40 Win Over Bethany

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team returned to action on Saturday afternoon for the first time since December 7, and the Lady Lions picked up a 76-40 win over non-conference opponent Bethany College in the Adler Natatorum.

Penn State Altoona secured a season-high eight first place finishes in the win, the Lady Lions' third dual meet victory of the year. Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) and Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) each totaled three individual first place finishes, while Kaitlin Heil (Pittsburgh, PA/CAPA) nabbed two first places.

Dangelo's first win of the day was record-setting, as the freshman earned a new entry into the Penn State Altoona women's swimming program's record books for the fourth time this season. In the 1000 Yard Freestyle, Dangelo took first place with a time of 11:11.46, which surpassed the previous team record of 11:30.04, held by former swimmer Lindsay Johnson.

Dangelo also won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 25.94, and she prevailed in the 100 Yard Backstroke by clocking in at 1:02.84.

Heisey took first place in the 200 Yard IM, in which she finished in 2:36.27. She won the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:01.86, and she got her third victory of the day by posting a time of 1:23.74 in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.

Heil won her first event of the day, the 200 Yard Freestyle, by finishing in 2:23.98. Later, she took first place in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 1:24.45.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming continues its three-meet homestand on Tuesday, January 14, when the Lady Lions welcome non-conference opponent Wells College to campus for a dual meet starting at 1:00 p.m.
