Women’s Swimming Ascends to Third During Day Two AMCC Action

WEBSTER, N.Y. – The Penn State Altoona women's swimming team moved up the standings during day two of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Thursday, rising from fourth place to third place after the day's finals session in the Webster Aquatic Center.

After compiling 85 points in the opening day of the conference championships, the Lady Lions tacked 64 more points on to their total during Thursday's events to finish with 149 through two days of competition. Penn State Altoona now ranks ahead of Franciscan University (147 points), SUNY Delhi (107 points), and Pitt-Bradford (9 points).

Penn State Behrend is currently in first place with 281, and Alfred State College is close behind with 271 points.

The Lady Lions recorded two first place finishes – one individual and one relay –  during Thursday's finals session, both of which resulted in new women's swimming program records.

Grace Dangelo (State College, PA/State College) took the gold in the 400 Yard IM, placing first among all swimmers – including the competing Empire 8 conference swimmers – to win the AMCC title in that event with a time of 4:39.10. That time breaks Dangelo's own team record of 4:43.67 in that swim, which the freshman set on December 7 earlier this season.

Penn State Altoona's other win and team record came in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which the team of Avery Heisey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley), Dangelo, Gillian Lowe (York, PA/Dallastown), and Kaitlin Heil (Pittsburgh, PA/CAPA) combined to finish in 1:43.48 to rank first among all AMCC squads. That time supplants the previous record of 1:45.62, which was set during the 2017 AMCC Championships by former Lady Lions Paetyn Zeamer, Christina Grieco, Eva Gerhart, and Emily Booz.

Heisey earned a second place finish within the AMCC in the 100 Yard Butterfly. Competing in the consolation final, Heisey finished second among all AMCC swimmers combined between the 'A' and 'B' finals with a time of 1:04.53.

Heil took part in the 'C' final for the 200 Yard Freestyle, clocking in at 2:16.24 to earn eighth place in the AMCC overall standings for that swim.

In the night's final event, the 400 Yard Medley Relay, Lowe, Heisey, Dangelo, and Heil came together for a time of 4:30.17 to claim fourth place within the AMCC.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming gets back at it tomorrow, Friday, February 21 for day three of the AMCC Championships. Friday's action starts at 10:00 a.m. with preliminaries, followed by another session of finals at 5:30 p.m. To view the complete schedule, visit the official website of the AMCC Championships HERE.
