Lady Lions Fall 5-0 to Franciscan in AMCC Championship

ERIE, Pa. - #2 Penn State Altoona women's tennis fell 5-0 to #1 Franciscan University in Sunday afternoon's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship match at Westwood Racquet Club.

For Franciscan (12-5), the championship win is the team's second consecutive AMCC title and its third in the past four seasons.

The Lady Barons swept doubles play to start Sunday's match with a 3-0 lead. Penn State Altoona (8-6) went down 8-0, 8-2, and 8-1 in the three doubles matches. Franciscan went on to clinch the match in singles play, winning the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches to collect the AMCC trophy.

Penn State Altoona finishes its season with an 8-6 overall record, including compiling a 6-2 AMCC regular season record. The Lady Lions' second place regular season finish in the conference this season was the team's highest since 2005, when Penn State Altoona posted a 4-2 AMCC record to come in second place at the conclusion of the regular season.

The Lady Lions' AMCC runner-up status is the fifth time in program history that the team has earned second place at the conclusion of the conference postseason tournament, with the previous time coming in 2006. It is also Penn State Altoona's first AMCC second place postseason finish since the league changed the playoff format to head-to-head team matches in 2012.
