Women's Tennis Tops Pitt-Bradford 6-3

ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's tennis grabbed a 6-3 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford on Saturday afternoon at the Leopold Tennis Courts at Altoona Area High School.

Penn State Altoona (3-4, 3-2 AMCC) won two out of three doubles matches to nab an early 2-1 lead on the day. Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle)/Annie Ruggles (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) prevailed 7-5 in No. 2 doubles, and Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria)/Patricia Whelan (Newburgh, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) won 7-3 in the No. 3 doubles match.

The Lady Lions proceeded to take four out of six singles matches to secure a comfortable three-point win over Pitt-Bradford (1-5, 1-4 AMCC). Kate Hugendubler (Reedsville, PA/Mifflin County) earned a 7-5, 6-3 triumph in No. 1 singles, and Lewis followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 2 slot. Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in No. 3 singles, and Whelan got a 6-0, 6-2 win in No. 5 singles.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis is back on the court tomorrow, Sunday, September 24, hosting AMCC opponent Pitt-Greensburg for a 1:00 p.m. match at the Leopold Courts.
