Lady Lions Defeat Pitt-Greensburg 6-3

ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's tennis earned its fourth Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win of the season on Sunday afternoon, when it beat league opponent Pitt-Greensburg 6-3 at the Leopold Tennis Courts at Altoona Area High School.

The Lady Lions (4-4, 4-2 AMCC) started the match by sweeping doubles play. Kate Hugendubler (Reedsville, PA/Mifflin County)/Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) won their No. 1 doubles match 8-2, Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle)/Annie Ruggles (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) prevailed 8-2 in the No. 2 slot, and Patricia Whelan (Newburgh, NY/John S. Burke Catholic)/Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria) triumphed 8-5 in the No. 3 match.

Penn State Altoona and Pitt-Greensburg (3-5, 3-4 AMCC) split the six singles matches, and the home team maintained its three-point lead.

Lewis earned a 6-3, 7-5 win in No. 2 singles, Girol picked up the 6-3, 6-0 decision in the No. 3 flight, and Acker won 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 6 match.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis hosts another AMCC opponent on Friday, September 29, when they take on La Roche College. That match is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. and will be held at ProCare Fitness Center in Altoona.
