Women's Tennis Extends Win Streak With 6-3 Victory Over Frostburg

ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's tennis won its fourth match in a row on Saturday afternoon, defeating non-conference opponent Frostburg State University 6-3 at the Altoona Area High School's Leopold Tennis Courts.

The Lady Lions (6-4, 5-2 AMCC) took two out of three doubles matches to get out to an early lead on the day.

In No. 1 doubles, the duo of Kate Hugendubler (Reedsville, PA/Mifflin County)/Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) won 8-4. The tandem of Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle)/Annie Ruggles (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) earned a 9-7 victory in the No. 2 doubles match.

Penn State Altoona then won four of six singles matches to down Frostburg (2-2) by three points in the match.

Lewis secured a 6-0, 6-2 victory in No. 2 singles, and Girol won her No. 3 singles match via a 7-5, 1-0, forfeit decision. Ruggles followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win in No. 4 singles, and Patricia Whelan (Newburgh, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) prevailed 6-2, 6-1 in No. 5 singles.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis makes a short road trip tomorrow, Sunday, October 1, when it will compete against nearby Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Mount Aloysius College. That match is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
