Lady Lions Tennis Falls 8-1 to W&J in Regular Season Finale

WASHINGTON, Pa. - In its final match of the regular season on Saturday afternoon, the Penn State Altoona women's tennis team lost 8-1 to non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College at the Janet L. Swanson Tennis Center.

Washington & Jefferson (6-6) swept doubles play to stake out the 3-0 lead in the match, and the Presidents proceeded to win five out of six in singles play to carry a seven-point win on the day.

Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) won the lone point for Penn State Altoona (7-5) on the day, defeating her opponent 7-5, 6-7, 10-8 in No. 3 singles.

Next up, Lady Lions tennis will look to win its third-ever Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship in next weekend's conference tournament. As the number two seed in the tournament, the Lady Lions earn a first round bye and will pick up play in the semifinal round on Saturday, October 21 at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie. In that day's semifinal match, Penn State Altoona will play the winner of the contest between #3 Penn State Behrend versus #6 Pitt-Bradford, which will be played on Saturday, October 14.
