Women’s Tennis Cruises to 8-1 Win Over Medaille

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's tennis recorded its second Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win on Sunday, defeating Medaille College 8-1 at the Gorilla House Gym.

The Lady Lions (2-1, 2-0 AMCC) swept doubles to start the day with a 3-0 lead. Jessica Stevens (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) won 8-1 in No. 1 doubles, and Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle)/Annie Ruggles (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) came back to win 9-7 in the No. 2 doubles match. Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria)/Sierra Snigier (Seaford, DE/Seaford) prevailed 8-4 in the No. 3 doubles match.

After that, Penn State Altoona picked up five points in singles play. Stevens blanked her opponent in No. 1 singles, posting a 6-0, 6-0 win. Lewis earned a 6-3, 6-4 win in No. 2 singles, and Girol battled for a 6-4, 5-7, 10-5 victory in the No. 3 slot. Ruggles won 7-5, 6-3 in No. 4 singles, and Acker had a comeback win in the No. 5 match with a 3-6, 7-6, 10-4 decision.

Next up for the Lady Lions tennis team is a non-conference match at home against Saint Vincent College on Saturday, September 15 at 1:00 p.m.
