Women’s Tennis Secures 8-1 Win at Pitt-Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's tennis stayed perfect in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference with an 8-1 victory against conference foe Pitt-Greensburg on Sunday afternoon at the Greensburg Racquet Club.

The Lady Lions (3-2, 3-0 AMCC) showcased a strong performance, sweeping doubles play and winning five out of six in singles.

In No. 1 doubles, Jessica Stevens (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Sadie Buzan (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) posted an 8-0 blanking of their opponents. Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle)/Annie Ruggles (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) earned a 9-7 win in No. 2 doubles, and Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park)/Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria) rounded the doubles matches out with an 8-2 victory in the No. 3 slot.

In No. 1 singles, Stevens continued her strong start to her first collegiate season of tennis, improving to 5-0 on the year with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over her opponent. Buzan picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 3 singles, and Girol followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 match. Ruggles prevailed 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 slot, and Acker posted a 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 win in the No. 6 match.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's tennis has a big match against defending AMCC champion Franciscan University. The Lady Lions host Franciscan for a home match on Friday, September 21 at 3:30 p.m., with the match scheduled to be played outside at the Adler Tennis Courts.
