Women’s Tennis Sweeps Behrend 9-0

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's tennis got back on the winning track on Saturday afternoon, defeating Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend 9-0 at the Behrend Courts.

Penn State Altoona (4-3, 4-1 AMCC) got off to a strong start with a dominant sweep in doubles play. In No. 1 doubles, Jessica Stevens (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) won 8-4. In No. 2 doubles, Annie Ruggles (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg)/Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) prevailed 8-0, and Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria)/Sierra Snigier (Seaford, DE/Seaford) also won 8-0 in the No. 3 doubles match.

The Lady Lions' momentum carried into singles, where they won all six matches over Penn State Behrend (0-7, 0-6 AMCC). Stevens kept her season-opening win streak alive, improving to 7-0 in singles matches this year with a 6-0, 6-0 white wash of her opponent in the No. 1 singles match. Lewis also blanked her opponent in the No. 2 singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, and Girol had a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of her opponent in the No. 3 singles slot.

Ruggles won her No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-0, Acker triumphed 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 5 match, and Snigier earned a 6-4, 6-0 win in the No. 6 singles spot.

Next, Penn State Altoona women's tennis will face off against non-conference opponent Frostburg State University on the road on Saturday, September 29 at 1:00 p.m.
