Lady Lions Roll to 5-1 Win Over Bradford

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's tennis picked up its third straight win on Saturday afternoon, defeating Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Pitt-Bradford at the Gorilla House Gym.

The Lady Lions (7-4, 6-1 AMCC) got the match started by winning two out of three in doubles. Jessica Stevens (Altoona, PA/Altoona)/Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) earned an 8-1 win in No. 1 doubles, and Manoela Villela de Quadros (Curitiba, Brazil/Chaminade-Madonna)/Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) won 8-5 in No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Stevens improved her spotless record to 11-0 this season with a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash of her opponent in the No. 1 singles match. Stevens' 11 wins in singles ties the Penn State Altoona women's tennis record for the most singles victories in a year. Her next win will a set a new single season program record.

Lewis cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 2 singles match, and the Lady Lions picked up the decisive fifth point in the No. 3 singles slot, courtesy of a forfeit.

Because play was moved indoors due to rain showers throughout the afternoon, the women's match was played to decision to allow for time to also complete the Penn State Altoona-Pitt-Bradford men's tennis match.

Women's tennis plays its final AMCC regular season match tomorrow, Sunday, October 7, when the team will travel to face La Roche College at 12:00 p.m. at the Oxford Athletic Club.
