Stevens Breaks Singles Record in Lady Lions’ 7-2 Win at La Roche

WEXFORD, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's tennis' freshman Jessica Stevens (Altoona, PA/Altoona) set a new program record, helping the Lady Lions to a 7-2 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche College on Sunday afternoon at Oxford Athletic Club.

With a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles, Stevens improved her overall singles record to 12-0 this season. Those 12 wins represent a new Penn State Altoona women's tennis program single season record for the most singles victories in a year. Stevens' total of 12 singles wins this fall surpasses the previous record of 11, held by former Lady Lions Regina Sanchez (2014 and 2015) and Madison Caplan (2014).

Penn State Altoona (8-4, 7-1 AMCC) took care of business in its last regular season AMCC match of the year, cruising to a comfortable win over La Roche (3-5, 3-4 AMCC). The win clinches the number two seed for the Lady Lions in the upcoming AMCC Tournament.

Penn State Altoona started the day by sweeping doubles play. Stevens/Manoela Villela de Quadros (Curitiba, Brazil/Chaminade-Madonna) won 8-1 in the No. 1 match, Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle)/Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) prevailed 8-2 in the No. 2 spot, and Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria)/Sierra Snigier (Seaford, DE/Seaford) triumphed 8-3 in the No. 3 match.

Next, the Lady Lions won four out of six singles matches. In addition to Stevens' record-setting 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles, de Quadros sailed to a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 match, Girol earned a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 4 slot, and Acker won 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 match.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis will close out its regular season with a non-conference match at home on Saturday, October 13, when the Lady Lions will play Division II opponent California University (Pa.) at 11:00 a.m.
