Women’s Tennis Drops Two to Start Season

NEW WILMINGTON / BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's tennis team started its 2019 season on Saturday, and the Lady Lions suffered a pair of 9-0 losses to non-conference opponents Westminster College and Geneva College.

Match One: Westminster 9, Penn State Altoona 0

The Lady Lions fell 9-0 at Westminster to start their day off.

The Titans swept doubles play to open the match, including getting 8-1 wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Westminster went on to win all six singles matches to wrap up the match.

Match Two: Geneva 9, Penn State Altoona 0

After their loss to Westminster, Penn State Altoona hit the road for Blackhawk High School, where the Lady Lions were handed a 9-0 loss by Geneva.

The match followed a similar script to the day's first match. Geneva started by sweeping the three doubles matches, getting 8-1 wins in the first two spots. The Golden Tornadoes then won all six singles matches to complete the sweep.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's tennis plays its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matches of the season when the Lady Lions travel to play D'Youville College on Saturday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m. and Medaille College on Sunday, September 8 at 11:00 a.m.
