Lady Lions Tennis Cruises Past La Roche 6-3

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's tennis picked up its third Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win of the season on Tuesday afternoon, when the Lady Lions posted a 6-3 victory over La Roche University at the Adler Tennis Courts.

Penn State Altoona (5-7, 3-3 AMCC) got out to a strong start by winning two out of three doubles. Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria)/Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) prevailed 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles match, while Grace Butz (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg)/Katie Kruza (York, PA/Central York) won 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles match.

Next, the Lady Lions won four out of six in singles over La Roche (2-6, 1-5 AMCC) to win the match by three points.

Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) battled for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 victory in No. 1 singles. Girol produced her team-best eighth singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over her opponent in the No. 3 spot. In No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, Alivia Serenita (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) and Kruza both earned 6-0, 6-0 victories.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis will travel for its next match, heading north to face AMCC opponent Pitt-Bradford this Saturday, October 5 at 1:00 p.m.
