Women's Volleyball Splits Matches in First Day of Gettysburg Classic

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's volleyball opened its 2017 season in the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic on Friday afternoon, as the Lady Lions dropped their first match to Muhlenberg College before winning their second against Hood College in the Hauser Field House.

Penn State Altoona (1-1) suffered a 3-0 loss to Muhlenberg (1-0) in the Lady Lions' first match of the day, losing by scores of 25-15, 25-9, and 25-15.

Kelsey Bristol (Troy, PA/Troy) led the Lady Lions in kills with five, and she also contributed eight digs. Lauren Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) had three kills to go along with a team-high 10 digs.

Emily Bryan (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) had five set assists and three digs, and Lauren Moran (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) recorded four assists.

The Lady Lions bounced back to win their second match of the day over Hood (0-1), grinding out a 3-2 victory. Penn State Altoona played to a 25-27, 25-20, 17-25, 25-21, 16-14 decision.

Bristol led her team in kills with 14 while adding 18 digs, one solo block, and one block assist. Josie Stovall (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) finished with 11 kills and two block assists, and Diller had seven kills, 16 digs, and one solo block.

Moran led Penn State Altoona in set assists with 31, and she also put up a team-high 25 digs. Bryan chipped in 11 assists and four digs, and Geordan Hay (Berlin, PA/Berlin Brothersvalley) tallied 11 digs.

Lady Lions volleyball returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, September 2, in the second and final day of the Gettysburg Classic. Penn State Altoona will face Marywood University at 10:00 a.m. before wrapping up its weekend with a 12:00 p.m. match against Arcadia University.
