Lady Lions Lose Pair in Lycoming Classic

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's volleyball suffered a pair of non-conference losses on Friday evening in the Lycoming College Tip-Off Classic, falling 3-2 to Alfred State College and 3-0 to the University of Rochester in the Lamade Gymnasium.

In its first match of the day, Alfred State (7-6) defeated Penn State Altoona (3-14) in a five-set match by scores of 25-22, 17-25, 25-27, 25-18, 15-10.

Lauren Moran (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) and Kelsey Bristol (Troy, PA/Troy) had double-doubles for Penn State Altoona. Moran posted a season-high 31 assists to go along with 15 digs, while Bristol had a team-high 11 kills while adding 13 digs.

Emily Bryan (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) led the team in digs with 18 while tying for second on the squad in kills with nine. Kaitlin Cassaday (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) finished with nine kills, tying for second on the team. Cassaday and Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) each finished with one block assist, and Paige Burk (Claysburg, PA/Claysburg-Kimmel) had one solo block.

Kaila Clawson (Altoona, PA/Altoona) recorded 13 digs, and Nicole Kiser (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) had nine digs.

In their second match of the day, the Lady Lions were swept 25-13, 25-12, 25-12 by Rochester (16-5).

Cannistraci led Penn State Altoona in kills with five, while Bryan, Cassaday, Moran, and Velanna Skripek (Moshannon, PA/Bald Eagle) finished with three kills each.

Moran led the team in both assists and digs, recording seven of each. Bryan chipped in six assists to go along with five digs, and Bristol added six digs.

Penn State Altoona women's volleyball continues its road trip tomorrow, Saturday, October 6, when it competes in a tri-match at Wilkes University. The Lady Lions play New Jersey City University at 2:00 p.m. before facing host school Wilkes at 4:00 p.m.
