Women’s Volleyball Splits Saturday Matches at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's volleyball competed in a tri-match hosted at Wilkes University's Marts Center on Saturday afternoon, and the Lady Lions defeated New Jersey City University 3-0 before losing 3-0 to Wilkes.

In its first match of the day, Penn State Altoona (4-15) snapped a five-match skid with a 3-0 sweep of New Jersey City (6-13), prevailing 25-19, 25-17, 25-13.

Lauren Moran (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) led all players in the match with 19 assists while chipping in three service aces and nine digs. Kelsey Bristol (Troy, PA/Troy) had a match-high nine kills while leading the Lady Lions in digs with 10.

Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) added five kills and a match-high three total blocks, finishing with one solo block and two block assists. Kaitlin Cassaday (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) had a match-high four service aces to go along with four kills and a block assist. Emily Bryan (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) had nine assists, seven digs, five kills, and one block assist.

Tara Ryan (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) posted four kills and a solo block, and Lea Crofcheck (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) and Eden Taddei (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) accounted for one block assist each.

In Penn State Altoona's second and last match of the day, the Lady Lions lost 25-20, 25-11, 25-23 to Wilkes (15-8).

Cannistraci had a team-high seven kills and one solo block. Bryan finished with five kills to go along with 10 digs and nine assists. Bristol, Cassaday, and Taddei each accumulated four kills, with Bristol also posting 11 digs.

Moran totaled a team-best 13 assists while adding eight digs. Kaila Clawson (Altoona, PA/Altoona) led the team with 14 digs, and Nicole Kiser (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) finished with nine digs.

Penn State Altoona women's volleyball returns to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday, October 10, when they host La Roche College for a home match in the Adler Arena at 7:00 p.m.
