Women’s Volleyball Drops Two in Hiram Invitational

HIRAM, Ohio – Penn State Altoona women's volleyball suffered a pair of non-conference losses on Saturday, when the Lady Lions competed in the Hiram College Invitational at the Price Gymnasium.

Penn State Altoona (3-6) lost 3-1 to Baldwin Wallace University in its first match of the day, then finished the afternoon off with a 3-0 loss to host Hiram.

Match One: Baldwin Wallace 3, Penn State Altoona 1

Baldwin Wallace (15-1) won the opening set 25-19 before Penn State Altoona bounced back for a 25-19 victory of their own in the second set to tie the match score. But Baldwin Wallace prevailed 26-24 and 25-19 in the next two sets to take the match.

Lilia Farach (Tegucigalpa, Honduras/International School of Panama) led the Lady Lions in kills with eight and also contributed five digs and a solo block. Lydia Mock (Alum Bank, PA/Chestnut Ridge) and Jenna Bauer (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) added six kills apiece while tying for the team lead in digs with 12 each. Lauren Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) had five kills, eight digs, two service aces, and one solo block.

Emily Bryan (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) led the team in assists with 16 and also had two aces. Kayla Moran (Boalsburg, PA/State College) chipped in nine assists and nine digs.

Lexie Dorcon (Berlin, PA/Berlin Brothersvalley) posted nine digs and two aces. Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) led the Lady Lions in blocks with two solo blocks and two block assists. Sara Russo (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) had two block assists.

Match Two: Hiram 3, Penn State Altoona 0

Hiram (12-3) defended its home court, topping Penn State Altoona 25-11, 25-20, and 25-16.

Mock had team-highs for the Lady Lions with four kills and 14 digs. Bauer added three kills and 12 digs, and Diller had three kills and five digs.

Bryan led the team in assists with eight to go along with five digs and a block assist, and Moran had four assists with three digs.

Dorcon tallied six digs. Cannistraci finished with two solo blocks, and Farach had a solo block and a block assist.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's volleyball travels to face York College on Wednesday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m.
