PITTSBURGH – Penn State Altoona women's volleyball had its three-match winning streak snapped on Wednesday night, when the Lady Lions suffered a 3-1 loss to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent La Roche University at the Kerr Sport & Fitness Center.

La Roche (8-14, 4-2 AMCC) pulled out the win in a close match, prevailing 25-23, 24-26, 25-20, 25-23.

Two Penn State Altoona (6-9, 2-2 AMCC) players finished with double-doubles in the loss. Emily Bryan (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) had a team-high 15 assists and also recorded 16 digs, and she chipped in two service aces. Meanwhile, Jenna Bauer (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) had a team-leading 13 kills and finished with 11 digs, and she also had one solo block.

Lydia Mock (Alum Bank, PA/Chestnut Ridge) had seven kills and 15 digs, and Lauren Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) posted six kills, a team-high 17 digs, one solo block, and one block assist. Sara Russo (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) finished with five kills, one solo block, and one block assist.

Kayla Moran (Boalsburg, PA/State College) added 13 assists, seven digs, and three kills. Lexie Dorcon (Berlin, PA/Berlin Brothersvalley) had 11 digs and two aces. Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) tied the match-high with two solo blocks.

La Roche overcame a 22-17 deficit late in the first set to prevail. The Lady Redhawks reeled off four straight points, including back-to-back aces, to pull within one. Another ace tied the score 23-23, and the home team finished off the opening set with two kills.

Penn State Altoona responded by winning the second set to tie the match score. The Lady Lions led 14-7 early in the set before La Roche made a late push to tighten things up. But tied 24-24, a kill and block by Bauer in consecutive plays helped Penn State Altoona hang on to tie the match at 1-1.

La Roche countered by winning the third set to get back into the lead. The home team maintained a healthy lead throughout the set, leading by as many as six points midway through it. Up 20-18, the Lady Redhawks scored five of the next seven points to win the set.

Penn State Altoona held a lead late in the fourth set. Dorcon's ace and Diller's kill put the Lady Lions up 22-20, but La Roche answered with two straight points of their own to knot the score at 22. Another Diller kill put Penn State Altoona back on top, 23-22, but La Roche recorded three kills in a row to close out the set and the match.

Penn State Altoona women's volleyball gets back at it tomorrow, Thursday, October 17, returning home for a match at 7:00 p.m. against non-conference opponent Lycoming College.
