Women’s Volleyball Eliminated from AMCC Tournament

ERIE, Pa. – No. 4 Penn State Altoona women's volleyball was knocked out of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon, when the Lady Lions suffered a 3-0 loss to No. 1 Penn State Behrend in a semifinal round match at the Junker Center.

Penn State Behrend (18-10) swept the match by scores of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-21. Behrend now advances to the AMCC Championship match tomorrow, Sunday, November 10, at 1:00 p.m. on its home court.

Emily Bryan (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) posted her second double-double in as many AMCC Tournament matches for Penn State Altoona (12-12), recording a team-high 11 assists and also tying for the team lead in digs with 11. She also chipped in three kills.

Lydia Mock (Alum Bank, PA/Chestnut Ridge) put up a team-best seven kills to go along with 10 digs and one block assist. Jenna Bauer (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) tied Bryan with 11 digs, and she also had five kills, two block assists, and one service ace. Sara Russo (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) also had five kills and posted one block assist. Lauren Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) had 10 digs, four kills, and two block assists.

Kayla Moran (Boalsburg, PA/State College) finished with nine digs, six assists, and a kill. Lexie Dorcon (Berlin, PA/Berlin Brothersvalley) added seven digs and three assists.

In the match's first set, Behrend used a big run late in the action to pull away and win by nine points. After a timeout and holding a 16-14 lead, Behrend embarked on a 9-2 run to win the opening set 25-16. That run included six straight points to finish the set, as Behrend got four consecutive kills before back-to-back aces ended the set.

Behrend got out to a big lead in the second set and never looked back. The home team started out to a 9-2 advantage, then eventually turned that into an 18-6 lead. Behrend went on to win the set by 11 points, staking out a 2-0 lead in the match.

Behrend never trailed in the third set and led by as many as nine points, when a kill midway through the set made it 18-9. Penn State Altoona outscored Behrend 12-7 the rest of the way, but it was too late for the Lady Lions, as they ultimately fell by four points.

Now, Penn State Altoona women's volleyball will hope for a bid into the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championship Tournament. The field for that tournament is expected to be announced on Monday, with the first round of matches to be held later next week.
