Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh in Gettysburg Invitational

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's golf wrapped up its regular season schedule with a seventh place finish out of 14 teams in Wednesday afternoon's Gettysburg College Invitational at Hanover Country Club.

Gettysburg won the day with 308, followed by Lebanon Valley College with a score of 316.

Penn State Altoona placed ahead of the Gettysburg 'B' team (324), Stevenson University (326), Catholic University (330), Hood College (339), Marymount University (343), Elizabethtown University (348), and Penn State Mont Alto (364).

Ethan Yohe (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) shot his best score of his freshman season, firing a 73 on the par 71 course to place second individually out of 71 golfers. Luke Hoffnagle (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove) carded an 80 to tie for 16th place.

"Ethan put together a great round today, and it was really the breakout round we have been waiting for. He has played so well all season, and this will give him a great boost heading into the weekend," said Penn State Altoona head coach Tom Koehle. "Luke made five birdies, but had a couple big numbers. The five birdies, though, are a great sign."

Jimmy Gillespie (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) and Payton Guelich (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) each shot 84, and Jacob Mrvos (Pittsburgh, PA/Norwin) finished with an 86. Ely Roselius (Pittsburgh, PA/Moon) competed as an individual and shot 84 in his first event of the season.

Now, the Penn State Altoona men's golf team will turn its focus to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships. The two-day event, which starts this Sunday, October 7 for the first round and advances to Monday, October 8 for the second round, is hosted at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club.

The Lions will be looking to win their sixth-ever AMCC title, and their first since 2010.
