Men’s Swimming Wins SUNY Delhi Invitational

DELHI, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona men's swimming turned in its finest performance of the 2018-19 to date on Saturday, when it placed first in the SUNY Delhi Fall Invitational at the Kunsela Hall Aquatics Center.

The Lions recorded a season-high 10 first place finishes, winning all of the events in which they competed.

Penn State Altoona picked up two of its first places in relay events. In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the team of Cooper Gilkey (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria), Greg Landis (York, PA/West York), Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra), and Andrew Lesnett (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) combined for a time of 1:49.37 to win. Later in the meet, Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) Lesnett, Landis, and Yaw came together to win the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a total time of 1:37.49.

In addition to their relay wins, Lesnett and Yaw each recorded two individual first places. Lesnett took first place in the 200 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 1:52.72, and he later prevailed in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 51.29. Yaw came first in the 200 Yard IM, clocking in at 2:12.32. He also won the 100 Yard Butterfly, earning a time of 56.31.

Bauer picked up a first place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle, winning the swim with a time of 25.36. Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) took first place in the 100 Yard Backstroke, clocking in at 1:062.22. Landis won the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:11.38. Tyler Stauss (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) took first place in the meet's final event, the 1,650 Yard Freestyle, by finishing in 21:28.78.

With today's meet behind them, the Lions are now finished with competitions until January. The team's next meet is on the road on Saturday, January 12, when it will travel to face non-conference opponent Bethany College in a dual meet starting at 1:00 p.m.
