Men’s Swimming in Fourth After Opening Day of AMCC Championships

ERIE, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's swimming held down fourth place out of five teams by the end of the first day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Wednesday night in the Junker Center Pool.

The Lions grabbed 22 points to come in fourth place by the end of Wednesday evening's finals session, which consisted of just one event, the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay. Penn State Behrend was in first place with 46 points, Alfred State College was second with 34 points, and Pitt-Bradford held third with 26 points. SUNY Delhi was in fifth place with 20 points.

Penn State Altoona nabbed fourth place in the 'A' final of the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, as Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville), Tyler Stauss (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional), Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone), and Cooper Gilkey (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) combined for a time of 8:22.09 to score 22 points.

Day two of the AMCC Championships is tomorrow, Thursday, February 14. The day kicks off with preliminaries in the 500 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard IM, and 50 Yard Freestyle at 10:00 a.m. In the evening, starting at 6:00 p.m., the finals session will consist of the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, 500 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard IM, 50 Yard Freestyle, and 400 Yard Medley Relay events.
