Lions Stay in Fourth After Friday’s AMCC Session

ERIE, Pa. – By the end of day three of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center Pool, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team continued to sit in fourth place out of five teams.

Through three days' worth of competition in the four-day event, the Lions had accumulated 149 points. Penn State Behrend was in first place with 593 points, Alfred State College was second with 288 points, and Pitt-Bradford was third with 162 points. SUNY Delhi was in fifth place with 83 points.

Penn State Altoona started off Thursday night's finals session with a third place finish in the 'A' final for the 200 Yard Medley Relay, as the team of Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville), Greg Landis (York, PA/West York), Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra), and Andrew Lesnett (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) combined for a time of 1:45.79.

Yaw took fourth place in the 'A' final of the 100 Yard Butterfly, clocking in at 54.26. Lesnett finished in sixth place in the 'A final for the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:49.08.

In the 100 Yard Breaststroke, Landis took second place in the 'B' final and eighth overall out of 12 total swimmers in the event by clocking in with a time of 1:07.86. Matt Beam (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) was fifth in the 'B' final and 11th overall, claiming a time of 1:24.23.

In the 'B' final of the 100 Yard Backstroke, Begany came in first out of that group and seventh out of 11 swimmers in the event by recording a time of 1:01.82.

Next, the Lions head into the fourth and final day of the AMCC Championships tomorrow, Saturday, February 16. The day will begin at 10:00 a.m. with preliminaries in the 200 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Breaststroke, 200 Yard Butterfly, and 1,650 Freestyle. The last finals session of the championships will start at 6:00 p.m., featuring the 1,650 Freestyle, 200 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Breaststroke, 200 Yard Butterfly, and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The AMCC individual awards session will follow.
