Men’s Swimming Places Ninth by Conclusion of Oberlin Invitational

OBERLIN, Ohio – By the end of the third and final day of this weekend's Oberlin College Invitational at the Carr Pool, the Penn State Altoona men's swimming team nailed down ninth place out of 12 teams.

The Lions finished Sunday's finals round with a total of 409 points, ranking ninth out of the 12 participating men's teams. Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend finished in first place with 1,264.5 points, while Ashland University was second with 1,082 points, and Allegheny College came in third with 1,071 points.

Isaac Swanson (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) broke his third team record of the weekend during Sunday night's finals session, this time breaking a mark he held himself. In the 'A' final for the 100 Yard Backstroke, Swanson was the runner-up by finishing in 53.87, breaking his own team record time of 54.60 set during last Saturday's home meet against AMCC opponent Alfred State College. His second place finish secured 28 points for Penn State Altoona.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) scored 14 points for the Lions in the 100 Yard Butterfly, competing in the 'B' final for that swim and placing 13th overall with a time of 54.92. Also in the 100 Yard Butterfly 'B' final, Kieran McKee (York, PA/West York) took 15th place overall and netted 12 points by finishing in 56.17

In the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Greg Landis (York, PA/West York) secured seven points for Penn State Altoona when he clocked in at 2:31.17 in the 'C' final, taking 18th place overall. HaoYing Hsieh (Allison Park, PA/North Allegheny) placed right behind Landis, coming in 19th overall with a time of 2:34.67 in the 'C' final to grab six points. Aravind Gnanasekaran (King of Prussia, PA/Methacton) finished one spot later, taking 21st place overall with a 2:43.52 time in the 'C' final for a total of four points.

In addition to Swanson's second place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke, Taylor Bohn (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) won the 'B' final in that swim by placing ninth overall with a time of 57.27 to grab 20 points. Michael Begany (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) took six points and 19th place overall when he finished in 1:03.15 during the 'C' final for the 100 Yard Backstroke. Bryce Bauer (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) earned two points in the 100 Yard Backstroke 'C' final by finishing in 1:05.58 and placing 23rd overall.

The Lions swimming team finished its night by earning 46 points and a seventh place finish in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay final, where the team of Swanson, McKee, Bohn, and Yaw came together to finish in 3:20.58.

Now, Penn State Altoona men's swimming will prepare for a home meet against AMCC foe Penn State Behrend on Saturday, December 7 at 1:00 p.m. in the Adler Natatorium.
