
Men’s Tennis Concludes Weekend with 5-2 Loss at Harrisburg
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team wrapped up its weekend road trip with a 5-2 loss to non-conference opponent Penn State Harrisburg on Sunday afternoon at the Hoverter Tennis Complex.
Harrisburg (11-5) got the first point of the day by winning two out of three in doubles. Penn State Altoona (10-5) salvaged a victory in the No. 3 doubles match, where the duo of Nick Beard (Manns Choice, PA/Bedford)/Jackson Newell (Leechburg, PA/Kiski Area) earned a 7-6 (7-5) win for their fourth victory together.
In singles play, the Lions got wins in the No. 4 and No. 6 matches. At No. 4, Newell registered his 10th victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over his opponent, and Emmett Hibbs (Richfield, PA/East Juniata) bagged his fifth win of the year after prevailing 6-3, 6-4.
But Harrisburg won four out of six overall in singles to ultimately hand Penn State Altoona a three-point loss.
Next up, the Lions tennis team will conclude its regular season on Monday, April 21, when the squad travels to play non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College in a match beginning at approximately 3:30 p.m.
