JAMAICA, N.Y. -- After a tough Saturday that saw the Penn State Altoona men's volleyball team take a pair of losses, the Lions responded on Sunday by defeating John Jay College 3-1 and York College (N.Y.) 3-0 at the York College Gym.

Penn State Altoona (6-3) started the day by winning 25-21, 22-25, 25-14, 25-19 over non-conference opponent John Jay (1-1).

Brian Sheddy (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) led the Lions in kills with eight, and he added six digs and two block assists. Dan Downs (Reading, PA/Daniel Boone) finished with seven kills, three digs, and tied for the team-high with five total blocks (two solo blocks, three block assists).

Brandon Arentz (Northeastern, PA/Mount Wolf) added six kills and led the Lions with 13 digs. Ryan Dry (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) finished with five kills and five total blocks (one solo block, four block assists). Justin Bannister (Willow Hill, PA/Fannett-Metal) contributed three total blocks (one solo block, two block assists) and six digs.

Tommy Kisick (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) totaled a team-high 26 set assists to go along with four kills and a pair of block assists, and Jonathan Ruhl (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) recorded 11 digs for Penn State Altoona.

In the Lions' second match of the day, they triumphed 25-11, 25-18, 25-13 over non-conference opponent York (0-2).

Penn State Altoona totaled 15 service aces in the win, setting a new program record for the most aces in a single match. Dylan Appleman (Roaring Spring, PA/Central) and Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) led the Lions in that department with three aces apiece, while Bannister, Downs, and Ian Rathgeb (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) tallied two aces each.

Dry led Penn State Altoona in kills with a season-high 10, while Appleman contributed five kills. Downs and Rathgeb chipped in three kills each, with Downs also recording one solo block.

Kisick put up a team-best 20 assists. Rathgeb led the Lions in digs with four, while Ruhl added three digs.

Penn State Altoona men's volleyball returns home for its next match, as the Lions will host non-conference opponent Messiah College on Wednesday, January 31 at 7:00 p.m.
