Lions Fall to Wittenberg, Marian in Friday Matches

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- Penn State Altoona men's volleyball kicked off day one of the Wittenberg University Power Weekend on Friday night, and the Lions lost 3-0 to both Wittenberg and Marian University (Wisc.) at the Pam Evans Smith Arena.

Penn State Altoona (6-6) opened its weekend with a 25-16, 25-19, 25-23 loss to host Wittenberg (5-4).

Dan Downs (Reading, PA/Daniel Boone) and Brian Sheddy (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) tied for the team-high in kills for the Lions, recording eight kills each. Downs also added one block assist. Justin Bannister (Willow Hill, PA/Fannett-Metal) and Ryan Dry (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) posted five kills apiece.

Tommy Kisick (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) led the team with 25 assists while chipping in seven digs and one block assist. Brandon Arentz (Mount Wolf, PA/Northeastern) totaled a team-best 13 digs.

In its second match of the evening, Penn State Altoona fell 25-18, 25-16, 25-22 to Marian (2-3).

Bannister led the Lions with 10 kills while contributing six digs, and Downs posted nine kills.

Kisick posted team-highs in three different categories, leading his squad with 24 assists, 11 digs, and two service aces. Arentz had eight digs.

The Lions return to action tomorrow, Saturday, February 3 for day two of the Power Weekend. At 11:00 a.m., Penn State Altoona will go up against Elmira College before wrapping up its weekend against nationally-ranked #5 Dominican University (Ill.).
