SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – In the second and final day of the Wittenberg University Power Weekend, the Penn State Altoona men's volleyball team took losses to Elmira College and #5 Dominican University (Ill.) in non-conference matches at the Pam Evans Smith Arena.

Penn State Altoona (6-8) suffered a 25-19, 26-24, 25-22 loss to Elmira (7-3) in its first match of the day.

Brandon Arentz (Mount Wolf, PA/Northeastern) led the Lions in kills and blocks, recording eight kills and three block assists. Justin Bannister (Willow Hill, PA/Fannett-Metal), Dan Downs (Reading, PA/Daniel Boone), Ian Rathgeb (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone), and Brian Sheddy (Shrewsbury, PA/Susquehannock) finished the match with seven kills apiece. Bannister and Downs each added two block assists, and Sheddy had a team-best 14 digs.

Tommy Kisick (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) tallied a team-high 31 assists while adding five digs and one block assist.

In the Lions' last match of the weekend, they lost a 3-2 thriller to nationally-ranked Dominican. Penn State Altoona grinded out a 32-30 win in the first set before Dominican came back with 25-19 and 25-16 victories in the next two sets. The Lions evened the match score with a 25-19 win in the fourth set, but Dominican took the fifth set 15-7 to prevail.

Bannister led his team with a season-high 14 kills to go along with five digs, two service acesm one solo block, and one block assist. Downs contributed 13 kills, five digs, two aces, two solo blocks, and two block assists. Rathgeb posted season-highs with 10 kills and 12 digs while also adding one solo block.

Kisick recorded 40 assists with a team-best 14 digs, and he also had one block assist. Arentz posted 12 digs, as well as eight kills and one block assist, and Sheddy had nine digs and one block assist.

After a two-week layoff, the Penn State Altoona men's volleyball team will return to action for a two-day homestand against some conference opponents on Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18. On Saturday, the Lions host North Eastern Athletic Conference foe College of Saint Elizabeth at 12:00 p.m. in the Adler Arena in Penn State Altoona's first conference match of the season. The next day, the Lions host a tri-match, playing NEAC opponent Lancaster Bible College at 1:00 p.m. and new Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Hiram College at 5:00 p.m.
