Men’s Volleyball Goes 2-0 in Saturday AMCC Play

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona men's volleyball won both of its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matches on Saturday afternoon at Medaille College's Sullivan Center, defeating D'Youville College 3-0 before prevailing 3-1 over Medaille.

Penn State Altoona (8-9, 3-2 AMCC) has now won three matches in a row to end the month of February.

Match One: Penn State Altoona 3, D'Youville 0

Penn State Altoona handled D'Youville (1-14, 0-2 AMCC) in three sets, winning by scores of 25-15, 25-23, and 25-17.

Ben Beaver (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) led all players in the match with 14 digs, tied for the team-high in kills with eight, and added one solo block and one service ace. Tyler Sheaffer (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) tallied a match-high 28 assists to go along with eight kills, one solo block, and four digs.

Frank Perehinec (Altoona, PA/Altoona) posted a .667 attack percentage, recording six kills on nine attempts while adding five digs and one solo block. Mirko Pandini (Milan, Italy/Greater Latrobe) also had six kills for the Lions.

Nathaniel Reinert (State College, PA/State College) had six digs, three kills, one service ace, one solo block, and one block assist, and Daniel Jordan (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) had three kills on four attempts to go along with one block assist and one ace.

Nikolas Ferraro (Toms River, NJ/Donovan Catholic) totaled a team-high three block assists while chipping in two digs and one kill, Alistair Lawson (Kennett Square, PA/Unionville) had one solo block, one block assist, and one kill, and Abel Gebre (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) had two kills and four digs. Matthew Vandeveire (Washington, D.C./West Springfield) posted seven digs and also contributed five assists.

Match Two: Penn State Altoona 3, Medaille 1

Medaille won the first set 25-23 before Penn State Altoona responded with victories in the next three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-20.

Beaver had a team-high 15 kills to go along with four block assists and one solo block, as well as seven digs, four set assists, and two aces. Jordan totaled 10 kills and one block assist.

Sheaffer finished with a team-best 35 assists, 10 digs, and two solo blocks. Pandini had seven total blocks with five block assists and two solo blocks, and he also accumulated six kills and three aces. Perehinec racked up a team-high 17 digs and also had nine kills.

Vandeveire added 13 digs, and Micah Brinker (Lock Haven, PA/PA Cyber) had 10 digs.

Next up, Penn State Altoona men's volleyball heads to Huntingdon, Pa. for a non-conference tri-match hosted at Juniata College.  The Lions take on Stevens Institute of Technology at 1:30 p.m., making up a match that was previously postponed due to a winter storm on January 18 at Kean University. After that, Penn State Altoona will take on Juniata at 4:00 p.m.
