Women’s Bowling Falls to Pitt-Bradford in Season Opener

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's bowling team got its 2018-19 schedule started on Sunday morning against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Bradford at Holiday Bowl.

The Lady Lions went 0-3 on the day in the dual match against Pitt-Bradford, playing two traditional team format games and one best-of-seven baker series.

"It was nice to see past coaches Lori Tremmel and Toni Watt there to not only support our program, but also to recognize Nicole Watt during her senior day. Nikki has been a key contributor for the program for the past four years," said Penn State Altoona head coach John Carey. "Pitt-Bradford is a good team, and I think they will be contenders in the AMCC, so I give credit to coach Sarah Foley and her team."

In the traditional format, Pitt-Bradford posted wins of 784-659 and 755-741 over Penn State Altoona. Nicole Watt (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) led the team in pinfall, dropping 331 pins and posting a team-best 165.5 average per game. Allyson Givler (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield) dropped 312 pins and averaged 156.0 per game. Givler also bowled the team's high score on the day, finishing with 185 in the second game of the traditional format.

In the best-of-seven baker series, Pitt-Bradford prevailed 4-1 (159-129, 136-145, 159-123, 168-121, 127-123). Watt posted a team-high 14.70 baker average, while Givler finished with a baker average of 13.50.

Next, the Penn State Altoona women's bowling team will compete in the three-day Wilmington University Wildcat Invitational, which starts on Friday, November 30 at Bowlerama in New Castle, Delaware.
