Women’s Bowling Grabs First Win in First Day of Wildcat Invitational

NEW CASTLE, Del. – Penn State Altoona women's bowling picked up its first win of the 2018-19 season on Friday during day one of the Wilmington University Wildcat DII-DIII Invitational at Bowlerama.

The Lady Lions' first victory came in their fourth match of the day, when Penn State Altoona had its highest total pinfall of Friday's competition with a 704-666 win over fellow Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference squad New Jersey City University.

"It was a long day of bowling, but I was proud of the girls for pulling through in the fourth match of the day to pick up their first win of the year," said Penn State Altoona head coach John Carey, who recorded his first career victory as the team's coach.

Friday's competition consisted of five five-game baker matches decided by total pinfall.

In its first match of the day, Penn State Altoona suffered an 804-607 loss to host institution Wilmington. Next, the Lady Lions fell 860-652 to Adelphi University and 895-688 to AMCC opponent Medaille College. Penn State Altoona bounced back to record its first win, a 704-666 victory against AMCC foe New Jersey City. The Lady Lions finished their day with a 922-592 loss to Caldwell University.

Day two of the Wilmington Invitational is tomorrow, Saturday, December 1, and will consist of five traditional matches beginning at 10:00 a.m.
