Lady Lions Bowling Finishes Weekend in Wildcat Invitational

NEW CASTLE, Del. -- The Penn State Altoona women's bowling team went 0-3 in the third and final day of the Wilmington University Wildcat DII-DIII Invitational at Bowlerama.

Sunday's competition consisted of three best-of-seven baker matches.

In its first match of the day, Penn State Altoona suffered a 4-1 loss to Bloomfield College. The Lady Lions won the opening game 163-137, but Bloomfield bounced back to take the next four games by scores of 168-134, 128-124, 146-135, and 176-112.

Next, Penn State Altoona was swept 4-0 by Caldwell University, falling 146-105, 147-129, 154-129, 170-120.

The Lady Lions' tightest match of the day came against fellow Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference team New Jersey City University, which ultimately pulled out the 4-3 victory over Penn State Altoona. New Jersey City built a 3-0 lead with 148-125, 161-129, 172-123 wins in the first three games, but Penn State Altoona did not go quietly, taking the next three games 141-140, 154-146, and 134-121 to tie the match 3-3. However, the Gothic Knights earned a 150-145 win in the decisive seventh game to win the match by one.

Nicole Watt (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) finished the weekend with a team-best baker average of 16.76, including all of the baker matches from Friday and Sunday. Amanda Ickes (Altoona, PA/Altoona) posted a 14.64 baker average for the weekend, while Allyson Givler (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) had a baker average of 13.14.

Next up for the Penn State Altoona women's bowling team will be the three-day Saint Francis University Red Flash Invitational, which will be hosted at Holiday Bowl in Altoona on Friday, January 25, Saturday, January 26, and Sunday, January 27. Start times for each day will be announced closer to the competition.
