ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona women's bowling team secured its first win of the weekend during day two of the Saint Francis University Red Flash Invitational on Saturday at Holiday Bowl.

The Lady Lions went 1-4 in Saturday's traditional matches, finishing with a total pinfall of 3,417. In two days, Penn State Altoona has a combined pinfall of 6,831 to hold down eighth place.

Mount Aloysius College continues to hold on to the top spot on the leaderboard, as the Lady Mounties dropped 4,775 pins on Saturday to increase its pin total of 9,216. St. Francis is in second with 9,090 pins, and Mount Saint Mary's University is third with 8,956 pins.

Penn State Altoona began Saturday's traditional matches with a 988-698 loss to AMCC opponent Mount Aloysius. But the Lady Lions bounced back in their next match to grab a 732-680 victory over AMCC foe Penn State Behrend.

Penn State Altoona suffered losses in its final three matches of the day, however. The Lady Lions went on to fall 909-721 to St. Francis, 859-618 to Kutztown University, and 913-648 to Mount St. Mary's.

"On the day, our highest scores were in games two and three. We were able to defeat our opponents in game two, when we posted a day-high score of 732, led by the high game for the day by our captain, Nikki Watt," said Penn State Altoona head coach John Carey.

Nicole Watt (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) led Penn State Altoona on the day in total pinfall and average, dropping a team-high 894 pins in five games to average 178.8 per game. She also posted her team's two high scores, notching a pair of 200-plus games with a 206 against Mount Aloysius and 214 against Penn State Behrend. Watt's 214 ties for the fourth-highest score in a traditional format game in Penn State Altoona women's bowling program history.

Amanda Ickes (Altoona, PA/Altoona) was second on the Lady Lions in pins and average, dropping 580 pins in four games and averaging 145.0 per game. Allyson Givler (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) finished the day with 547 pins in four games to average 136.75 per game.

Nicole Kiser (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) dropped 388 pins in a trio of games, averaging 129.33 per game. Lauren Moran (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) totaled 383 pins in three games, including bowling a career-high 167 against Mount Aloysius, to average 127.67 per game.

Rounding out the Lady Lions' lineup were Lucia Perez (Altoona, PA/CCS), who dropped 332 pins in three games, Eden Taddei (Duncansville, PA/Hollidaysburg), who totaled 189 pins in two games, and Kelsey Bristol (Troy, PA/Troy), who put down 104 pins in one game.

"Everyone showed signs of improvement, and we are just waiting for a game when the girls all roll to their potential," Carey stated. "Nikki started out strong with two 200 games, Lauren had a career-high 167, and Allyson had a 172 in game two. We need more consistency from the girls going into the final day to finish strong."

In the overall individual standings, Watt ranked 13th out of 62 bowlers in total pins and average, while Ickes was 32nd and Givler was 34th.

Penn State Altoona women's bowling will compete in the third and final day of the St. Francis Invitational tomorrow, Sunday, January 27 at 8:00 a.m. Sunday's competition will feature three best-of-seven baker matches.
