Second Half Surge Propels Waynesburg Past Lady Lions 3-1

ALTOONA, Pa. - Two second half goals pushed Waynesburg University past the Penn State Altoona women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon, as the Yellow Jackets prevailed 3-1 at Spring Run Stadium.

Penn State Altoona (1-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead at 20:16 on Shoshana Mahoney's (Sweet Valley, PA/Lake-Lehman) second goal of the season. Mara Brackett (Slippery Rock, PA/Slippery Rock) earned her first collegiate assist on the score, as she sent a ball down the middle of the field to Mahoney, who collected the pass near the edge of the box and chipped a shot past the goalkeeper.

But Waynesburg (1-1) capitalized on a foul in the penalty box just under 17 minutes later, as Teagan Jenner converted on a penalty kick at 37:08 to make it 1-1.

The score remained tied at one goal apiece until midway through the second half, when Waynesburg found the go-ahead tally. Emily Hill set up Jill Moyer with a pass in front of the net, and Golonka beat the goalkeeper from five yards out to put the visitors up 2-1 at 70:53.

Waynesburg added an insurance goal at 79:40, when Nikki Davis headed Sara Hackman's well-placed pass into the net to make it 3-1.
