Lady Lions Fall 2-1 to Mount Aloysius

ALTOONA, Pa. - A late second half goal helped Mount Aloysius College escape Spring Run Stadium with a 2-1 win over the Penn State Altoona women's soccer team in Wednesday night's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tilt.

Mount Aloysius' (7-4-1, 2-1 AMCC) Jordan Gebhart broke a 1-1 tie with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation to help the visitors grab the win.

Penn State Altoona (4-8, 2-2 AMCC) got a goal from Shoshana Mahoney (Sweet Valley, PA/Lake-Lehman) in the loss. Sydney Emershaw (Dallas, PA/Dallas) made 10 saves at goalkeeper.

The Lady Mounties made it 1-0 just 5:06 into the first half, when Cheyenne Kuncher's shot from the right side of the box tucked inside the right goal post.

Penn State Altoona knotted things up in the early stages of the second half. Jenna Mickel (Murrysville, PA/Franklin) placed a centering pass into the box to lead Mahoney toward the net, and Mahoney sent a shot past the goalkeeper and into the right side of the goal to tie the score 1-1. The goal was Mahoney's team-best 11th of the year, and it also represents a new personal high for the senior forward in a single season.

But Mount Aloysius scored the game-winning goal at 79:52, when Kuncher's shot deflected off of the crossbar and came straight down to Gebhart, who tapped the ball into the net to put her team ahead 2-1.

Mount Aloysius led Penn State Altoona in shots attempted (23-10), shots on goal (12-5), and corner kicks (8-0).

Penn State Altoona women's soccer is back on the pitch this Saturday, October 7 when it hosts AMCC rival Penn State Behrend for a 3:15 p.m. game at Spring Run Stadium.
