Women’s Soccer Blanks Medaille 1-0

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer earned a 1-0 victory over Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Medaille College on Sunday afternoon at Dobson Field.

Penn State Altoona (5-5-2, 2-2-1 AMCC) maintained its recent momentum, as the team is now 2-0-1 in its last three games. The win is the Lady Lions' fourth shutout victory of the season.

Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona) scored her third goal of the year for the Lady Lions, and Meghan Flaugh (Roaring Spring, PA/Central) picked up her first collegiate assist. Riley Barrett (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) made two saves between the pipes to record her second win and second shutout of the season.

Penn State Altoona scored the game's only goal at 29:59, when Irwin took a pass from Flaugh and connected on a shot from just outside the box that found the top shelf of the goal.

The Lady Lions finished the day with a 15-7 advantage over Medaille (1-11-1, 0-5 AMCC) in shots, including a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. Penn State Altoona also had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Next up, the Lady Lions host AMCC opponent Franciscan University for a game at Spring Run Stadium this Tuesday, October 9 at 6:00 p.m.
