Women’s Swimming Falls to Franciscan

ALTOONA, Pa. – In its second home dual meet of the season on Saturday afternoon, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team suffered a 118-49 loss to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Franciscan University in the Adler Natatorium.

The Lady Lions recorded three total first places on the day, getting two individual wins along with one first place finish in a relay event.

Danielle Bye (Hockessin, DE/Cab Calloway School of the Arts) continued her strong start to her sophomore season, winning both individual events in which she participated. In the 100 Yard Butterfly, she placed first with a time of 1:03.52. One event later, Bye won the 100 Yard Backstroke after clocking in at 1:10.78.

Penn State Altoona grabbed a first place in the meet's final event, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. In that relay, the squad of Kaitlin Heil (Pittsburgh, PA/CAPA), Emily Beam (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone), Hannah Kimmick (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield), and Bye combined for a time of 1:56.52 to win it.

The Lady Lions also had a trio of runner-up finishes in individual swims.

Kimmick was the runner-up in two events, taking second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 13:01.63 and also coming in second during the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 6:20.14.

Heil took second place in the 50 Yard Freestyle, finishing in 29.35. She also notched a third place finish in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, earning a time of 1:24.94.

Beam added a third and fourth place finish to her day. In the 100 Yard Butterfly, she placed third with a time of 1:10.88. Later, she took fourth in the 100 Yard Breaststroke when she touched the pad at 1:26.25.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's swimming hosts its final home meet of the season on Friday, November 9, when the Lady Lions welcome non-conference opponent Juniata College to campus for a dual meet starting at 5:00 p.m.
