Women's Tennis Defeats D'Youville 7-2

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona women's tennis picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe D'Youville College 7-2 at the Miller Tennis Center.

The Lady Lions (1-1, 1-1 AMCC) grabbed a 2-1 lead in the match by the end of doubles play. In No. 2 doubles, the duo of Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle)/Annie Ruggles (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) earned an 8-3 victory. In No. 3 doubles, Sierra Snigier (Seaford, DE/Seaford)/Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria) won 8-0.

Penn State Altoona proceeded to have a dominant showing in singles, winning five out of six against D'Youville (0-4, 0-3 AMCC) to secure a five-point match victory.

In No. 2 singles, Lewis won 6-3, 6-3. Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory in No. 3 singles, and Ruggles won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 slot. Acker followed with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in No. 5, and Snigier prevailed 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 6 flight.

Next, Penn State Altoona travels to play AMCC opponent Medaille College tomorrow, Sunday, September 10 at 1:00 p.m.
