Women’s Tennis Drops Season Opener to Geneva

ALTOONA, Pa. – After a weather-related postponement on Friday delayed the beginning of its 2018 schedule, the Penn State Altoona women's tennis team finally got its season started on Saturday when it hosted non-conference opponent Geneva College. But the Lady Lions were defeated 8-1 at The Summit Tennis & Athletic Club.

The Golden Tornadoes (2-0) swept doubles play to grab the early 3-0 lead in the match. Geneva proceeded to win five out of the six singles matches to leave with a comfortable seven-point win.

Penn State Altoona's lone point came in No. 1 singles, where Jessica Stevens (Altoona, PA/Altoona) picked up her first collegiate win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over her opponent.

Lady Lions tennis returns to action on Saturday, September 8, when it will play its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match of the season. Penn State Altoona will host D'Youville College that day for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
