Eagles Soar Past Lady Lions 6-3

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's tennis had its two-match win streak halted on Tuesday evening, when Juniata College grabbed a 6-3 victory over the Lady Lions.

Juniata (1-3) took the early lead by winning two out of three in doubles, which consisted of a trio of very closely-played matches.

Penn State Altoona (3-6) picked up a point in the No. 2 doubles match, where Victoria Acker (Cresson, PA/Penn Cambria)/Sophia Girol (South Park, PA/South Park) pulled out an 8-6 triumph. For Acker and Girol, it was their team-leading fifth doubles win together this season.

Things were shaken up when a location change for the match was forced early in singles play. As sunlight dwindled, the match was moved from the outdoor courts at the Adler Athletic Complex to indoor courts at The Summit Tennis and Athletic Center.

By the end of the match, Juniata had won four out of six singles matches to win the overall match by three points.

Girol posted her team-high fifth singles win by claiming a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the No. 4 singles match. In No. 6 singles, Katie Kruza (York, PA/Central York) prevailed 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis will look to get back on track this Saturday, September 28, when the Lady Lions will host another non-conference foe, Saint Vincent College, for a home match beginning at 1:00 p.m.
