Women's Volleyball Starts AMCC Schedule With Two Wins

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona women's volleyball battled for a pair of 3-2 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victories on Saturday afternoon, as the Lady Lions started their league schedule by defeating Pitt-Bradford and D'Youville College at D'Youville's College Center Gym.

In the day's first match, Penn State Altoona (4-8, 2-0 AMCC) was able to grind out a 25-18, 15-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-3 win against Pitt-Bradford to earn its first AMCC victory of the season and snap a seven-match skid.

Kelsey Bristol (Troy, PA/Troy) and Lauren Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) tied for the team-high in kills with 14 apiece. Bristol added 11 digs, while Diller had 13 digs and a team-best five solo blocks. Josie Stovall (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) contributed nine kills, and Tara Ryan (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) posted two solo blocks.

Lauren Moran (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) led the Lady Lions in both set assists and digs, tallying 21 assists and 15 digs. Emily Bryan (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) added 13 assists and chipped in five digs. Nicole Kiser (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) recorded eight digs.

In their second match of the day, the Lady Lions again had to grind through five sets to achieve a win, as they topped D'Youville 22-25, 25-23, 25-15, 19-25, 15-8.

Bristol totaled a season-high 20 kills and 26 digs. Stovall finished with 14 kills, and Diller had 11 kills and 14 digs. Ryan posted one solo block and one block assist.

Moran put up 25 assists to go along with 11 digs, and Bryan added 18 assists and seven digs. Kiser recorded 12 digs.

Penn State Altoona women's volleyball continues AMCC play next Wednesday, September 27, when they travel to Steubenville, Ohio to take on Franciscan University for a 7:00 p.m. match.
