Lady Lions Sweep Hollins 3-0

ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's volleyball defeated non-conference opponent Hollins University 3-0 on Friday night in the Adler Arena.

The Lady Lions (6-8) prevailed 25-12, 25-20, 25-21.

Lauren Diller (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) led all players with 13 kills and also contributed 15 digs. Kelsey Bristol (Troy, PA/Troy) added eight kills and a team-high 22 digs. Josie Stovall (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) had six kills, two service aces, and one solo block, and Velanna Skripek (Moshannon, PA/Bald Eagle) finished with six kills and seven digs.

Lauren Moran (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) had a match-high 23 assists to go along with eight digs and a solo block. Emily Bryan (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) contributed 10 assists and 12 digs. Nicole Kiser (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) tallied 10 digs.

Penn State Altoona cruised to a 13-point win in the first set, including finishing the game on a 13-4 run.

In the second set, Hollins (5-10) was able to keep the score close and established a 12-11 lead. But Penn State Altoona regained the lead with a 7-2 run, and it later closed out the set with five straight points. In that five-point run, the Lady Lions got kills from Stovall, Skripek, and Diller, and they picked up two points on attack errors.

Hollins again kept the score close in the third set, as it embarked on a six-point run midway through the game to narrow Penn State Altoona's lead to 17-16. But the Lady Lions responded with a six-point run of their own, and they eventually won the set with back-to-back kills from Diller and Moran.

Penn State Altoona women's volleyball returns to the court tomorrow, Saturday, September 30 when it hosts a tri-match in the Adler Arena. The Lady Lions face Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Penn State Behrend at 1:00 p.m. before taking on non-conference foe Wilkes University at 5:00 p.m.
