Chatham Comes Back to Defeat Lady Lions 3-2

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Chatham University overcame a 2-1 deficit in Thursday night's match at the Athletics and Fitness Center, defeating the Penn State Altoona women's volleyball team 3-2 in non-conference action.

Penn State Altoona (2-9) had built a two-sets-to-one advantage through three, winning the first set 25-16, losing the second set 25-15, and prevailing in the third set 25-23. But Chatham (4-5) won the fourth set 25-12 to force a tiebreaker, and the Cougars came back from a deficit in the fifth set to take it 15-12.

Kaitlin Cassaday (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) posted 11 kills and seven digs, and she had a career-high seven service aces. Cassaday's total of seven aces is tied for the fourth-most in a match in Penn State Altoona women's volleyball history, and it is also tied for the most aces in a five-set match in program history. Kelsey Bristol (Troy, PA/Troy) had a match-high 18 kills while adding 15 digs for Penn State Altoona.

Lauren Moran (Johnstown, PA/Westmont Hilltop) put up 23 assists to go along with a season-high 16 digs. Kaila Clawson (Altoona, PA/Altoona) totaled a season-best and team-high 23 digs.

Alexis Cannistraci (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) led Penn State Altoona in blocks with three total (one solo block, two block assists), while Paige Burk (Claysburg, PA/Claysburg-Kimmel) had two blocks (one solo block, one block assist) and Eden Taddei (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) also had two (two block assists).

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's volleyball prepares for Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play, as the Lady Lions will start their conference schedule on Saturday, September 22 with a pair of matches in Buffalo, N.Y. at Medaille College. First, the Lady Lions will take on Medaille at 10:00 a.m. before going up against rival Penn State Behrend at 2:00 p.m.
