Mavericks Edge Lions 1-0 in AMCC Game of the Week

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer came out on the losing end of Saturday's tightly-contested Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Game of the Week, as the Lions were handed a 1-0 loss by Medaille College at Buffalo Color Park.

One goal proved to be enough for Medaille (5-3, 2-0 AMCC), as the Mavericks scored just 4:30 into the game and made that lead stand up for themselves the rest of the way. Eric Metade set up Celso Juberias, who sent a shot into the upper part of the goal to give Medaille a 1-0 advantage.

The Lions (7-3, 2-1 AMCC), meanwhile, had limited offensive opportunities throughout the game and were unable to cash in. Medaille held a 22-7 advantage in shot attempts, a 11-5 lead in shots on goal, and a 6-1 difference in corner kicks. The loss is Penn State Altoona's first conference defeat of the season.

Tommy Packevicz (Trumbull, CT/Christian Heritage) played a strong game between the pipes to keep Penn State Altoona within striking distance, making 10 saves during the game.

Grady Ballard (State College, PA/State College) led the Lions with four shot attempts, including three shots on goal. Damian Dangler (Warminster, PA/William Tennent) attempted two shots, putting one on goal. Cameron McCarthy (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg) tallied one shot on goal.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer is back at home this upcoming Wednesday, October 6, hosting Pitt-Greensburg at Spring Run Stadium in a game starting at 7:00 p.m. Although Pitt-Greensburg is an AMCC opponent, the game is designated as a non-conference matchup, with the teams meeting in actual AMCC play on October 20 in Greensburg.
